I thought this was a great seminar; I had heard of HLT (Happenstance Learning Theory) but now feel that I have a better understanding of it—and better yet—a means to incorporate it into my practice with students.

COURSE CONTENT:

Did you know that happenstance—luck and the creation of unplanned events— can play a role in both your own career development and that of your students or clients?

In this course, we’ll review Krumboltz, Mitchell and Levin’s theory of happenstance and explore how we as career professionals can help our clients use the creation of luck or unplanned events in their lives as a tool in their own career development.

By the end of this seminar, you will be able to:

  • describe the general principles of the theory of happenstance
  • identify examples of chance in your own life
  • describe four steps a person can do to take advantage of unplanned events
  • name at least three tasks to recommend to your clients to help them create happenstance opportunities
  • identify the three steps in controlling unplanned events
  • describe how to integrate the principles and tools of happenstance into career advising and counseling
