OUTSTANDING CAREER PRACTITIONER AWARD

This award is designed to recognize practicing careers counselors, consultants, or teachers for outstanding performance in day-to-day service for people in the following areas:
- Years of serve in direct work with people in regards to career development in education, business and industry, and /or private practice;
- Quality of service as indicated by innovative programs, recognition by local organizations, publications, and the like; and
- Service to the profession as indicated by participating and leadership in professional associations at the local, state, and / or national levels.
Jim Peacock, a Career Counselor and Academic Advisor for Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield, Maine, Past- President of the Maine Career Development Association, and a national certified CDF trainer, has over 20 years of experience in the field of career development in education, business and industry, and private practice. He has been instrumental in the recent revitalization of the MCDA, substantially increasing membership and professional offerings. Letters of recommendation state "Jim is Mr. Career Development in Maine. His work and leadership has had an impact on virtually every facet of the career development field in our state." Those sentiments are echoed by the Governing Board of the MCDA as they write, "we fully recognize and appreciate his enthusiasm, skills and insights in the field of career development."

At an August meeting of the Maine Career Development Association President Woodlee announced that Advising and Career Center Director, Jim Peacock was a recipient of the National Career Development Association “Outstanding Career Practitioner” Award.
Recipients of this award must exhibit outstanding quality of service to the career development fields as seen in innovative programs or recognitions by local organizations or publications, provide direct career development services to students or employees and provide leadership in professional career development associations at the local, state or national levels.
“Jim more than fulfills these requirements,” said President Woodlee, “He has a passion for career development that is reflected in a wide variety of interests and activities.”
As a career counselor, Jim has extensive experience with both high school students and adults. He was a President of the Maine School Counselor Association and a member of the Executive Board of the Maine Counseling Association. He helped to make the Maine Career Development Association an official “chartered” member of the NCDA in 2005. As a nationally certified Career Development Facilitator Trainer, Jim has trained scores of career counselors in both public and private agencies.
